General Writing Tips

One very good advice I’ve gotten from my fiancée is to always have the “selling point first”. This applies to both the macro and micro level. This means that the reader should immediately be told why this is interesting and not have to conclude this themselves. It applies to the macro level, in which the paragraphs that describe why the paper is interesting should come in the beginning of the introduction. It also applies to the paragraph (micro) level, in which the sentences explaining why this paragraph is interesting should come first. The reader should not have to read a paragraph without knowing why. It can be hard to write in this way, so one advice is to keep this in mind when editing the paper.

One thing that I’ve noticed myself when writing is that it is best to have a clear purpose for each paragraph. Therefore, I’m making comments in my Latex document above each paragraph giving it a heading. One clear example it when describing a figure. Let’s say the figure shows 3 lines, then you label three paragraphs based on each line, and you explain the results for each line in their respective paragraph.
